Both of my parents were very creative. Dad was a genius in electronics, and Mom making decorations and fashion sewing. (She wouldn’t let me mess with her sewing machine.)
I have been making things as long as I can remember, starting with cardboard forts and plastic models, an erector set. Then a large model railroad in the basement. A chemistry set, piano and lapidary classes as a kid. Then pottery and quilt making to costume design, photography and antique restoration. I love getting my hands dirty and bringing new things to life.
Fabric as a medium started when I resided in Manhattan, near SoHo, which was a prominent sewing district in Manhattan. Dumpsters were overflowing with scraps and discards, offering a treasure trove of usable materials. I still like upcycling found materials. The pieces i make today are usually sourced from thrift stores and yard sales, there is so much already out there.
